As you watch schools around the country change plans, all revolving around the Coronavirus, I have something I have always called "Rule One!" in education. For me, Rule One in education is not to just educate but rather it is to keep children and teachers safe and secure SO THAT they can be educated. That's an important distinction. For example, if there is a chance of black ice on some cold morning and anyone questions a school delay, I usually respond by saying, "Refer to Rule One!" So as you see schools and districts in the country change procedures regarding field trips, gatherings, etc., remember Rule One.
